I decided to start off the new year by posting a few messages a week talking about the best and worst of the UFC. This isn't a talent discussion, for the most part, it is the overall likability of these fighters. It blows my mind why some people like certain fighters in the UFC or MMA in general. Stylistic or Characteristic attributes of these fighters are what makes them marketable. I am going to start off the new year with everyones favorite (except me) GSP!
George St. Pierre: Possibly the worst champion of all time. George St. Pierre defines boring on all fronts. By all fronts I mean wrestling (yes that is one front). George is the most talented one trick pony in the world. His wrestling is so amazing that I don’t know if anyone will ever beat him, not even Anderson Silva (Especially after what we saw what a roided Chael Sonnen could do on the ground to him). It isn’t that he is just a wrestler though; he is a boring mechanical wrestler. To my surprising many do not agree with me. I find it believe that so many people enjoy watching him fight. George even tried to trick himself into knocking out Josh Koscheck by saying it would happen on the Ultimate Fighter. I personally don’t buy that the rational human being enjoys watching St. Pierre but I will never doubt the mindless Canadian population when it comes to Pride. The Canadians could have the world’s first urine fountains and they would be proud of it. Canadians have a way of absorbing a cause, an ideal, or a champion and making it a bigger deal than it really is. If GSP had AIDS you better believe the entire population of Canada would do the irrational thing and petition him to be able to fight. George St. Pierre is boring excellent wrestler. This is not wrestling it is Mixed Martial Arts that is put on for our entertainment. Be less of a Robot and fight asshole.
